System Requirements for
Viewing Microsoft® Producer Presentations

Minimum Software Requirements

Windows Operating Systems - To view Microsoft Producer presentations on a computer running the Windows operating system, you need:

  • Windows NT® 4.0 or later, or Windows 98 or later
  • Microsoft Windows Media Player® 6.4 or later
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or later, or Netscape Navigator 7.0 or later

Note: Microsoft recommends using Windows Media Player 9 Series or later to optimize presentation playback.

Apple Macintosh Operation System - To view Microsoft Producer presentations on a computer running the Macintosh operating system (OS), you need:

  • Apple Mac OS X v 10.2 or later
  • Windows Media Player for Mac OS X
  • Internet Explorer 5.2.2 (or later) for Mac

Note: Advanced playback features are not available when you view a presentation in Netscape Navigator running on the Windows operating system or in Internet Explorer for the Macintosh.

 

Verify that Your Computer's Software Meet the Minimum Requirements

Below is a table that shows what software is required to view a Microsoft Producer presentation. The following directions will help you find what (a) operating system, (b) web browser and (c) media player are currently installed in your computer.

For PC Users with Windows Operating System

(a) To find which operating system is installed on your computer:

  1. Open the "Control Panel" (found in the "Start" menu)
  2. Open "System"
  3. Click on the "General" tab

This will reveal the operating system being run by your computer.

(b) To find which web browser is installed on your computer:

  1. Open an Internet Explorer (Internet Explorer icon )or Netscape Navigator (Netscape icon) browser window
  2. In the new browser window, click on the "Help" menu
  3. Scroll down to "About Internet Explorer", or "About Netscape Navigator" and open it.

This will reveal the web browser that is being used on your computer.

(c) To find which media player is installed on your computer:

  1. Open the "Windows Media Player (Windows Media Player icon)"
  2. In the media player, click on the "Help" menu
  3. Scroll down to "About Windows Media Player" and open it.

This will reveal which version of Windows Media player you have on your computer.

Now that you know what operating system, web browser, and media player are on your computer, use the table below to see if you need any software upgrades to run a Microsoft Producer presentation. In the table's left column, find the operating system that is on your computer. Follow that row to the right to see if your web browser and media player meet or exceed the minimum requirements.

  • Web Browsers: If your current web browser does not meet the minimum requirement, than you can download Windows Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (Free with your Windows Operating System).
  • Media Player: If your current media player does not meet the minimum requirement, than you can download the Windows Media Player 9 Series (free with your Windows Operating System). Downloading windows Media Player 9 Series is recommended for optimal viewing experience.

  1. Click on the "Apple Logo (Apple icon)" in the upper left corner of your desktop
  2. Scroll down to "About This Mac" and click it.

This will reveal the operating system being run by your computer.

(b) To find which web browser is installed on your computer:

  1. Click on the "Apple Logo (Apple icon)" in the upper left corner of your desktop
  2. Scroll down to "System Preferences" and click it.
  3. Under "Internet & Network" click on "Internet"
  4. Click on the "Web" tab

This will reveal the web browser that is being used on your computer.

(c) To find which media player is installed on your computer:

  1. Click on the "Apple Logo (Apple icon)" in the upper left corner of your desktop
  2. Scroll down to "System Preferences" and click it.
  3. Under "Internet & Network" click on "Windows Media Player (Windows Media Player icon)"
  4. Click the "About Windows Media Player..." button

This will reveal which version of Windows Media player you have on your computer.

Now that you know what operating system, web browser, and media player are on your computer, use the table below to see if you need any software upgrades to run a Microsoft Producer presentation. Find the operating system that is on your computer (left column), and follow that row to the right to see if your web browser and media player meet or exceed the minimum requirements.

  • Web Browsers: if your current web browser does not meet the minimum requirement, than the only option is to purchase a more recent version.
