Dean DeBellDean DeBell was raised in New Jersey and received his forestry education at Duke University. He became interested in hardwoods more than 40 years ago, conducting silvicultural studies in the Carolina bottomlands for the Southeastern Forest Experiment Station. In 1970 Dean moved to the Pacific Northwest to join Crown Zellerbach Corporation where some of his work involved short rotation management of alder and cottonwood. From 1975 through 2001, he served as silviculture team leader for the PNW Research Station at Olympia, and much of his personal research was on biology and silviculture of red alder. Dean retired from the Forest Service in 2001, and since has had temporary assignments with Oregon State University and The University of the South (Sewanee). |
